How Can Hypnotherapy Relieve You From A Phobia?
In the alternative form of hypnotherapy, the idea is to work on phobia in the tank first. When you then feel confident in your feelings, you are exposed to your phobia.
A hypnosis session begins with discussions about how we together achieve the goal we have agreed upon. It is important that, before treatment, you think about how to grade the fear on a scale of 1-10.
The hypnosis session begins with getting you into a deep relaxation and a feeling of comfortable calm. When you find an inner safe and secure place, a visual technique is used so that you can associate phobia with the feeling of calm.
In hypnosis, a technique can be used which means that with a sense of calm you see a movie with the phobia object. You flush the film back and forth until the fear dissolves and the brain can associate the phobia situation with the sense of calm. When you grade the fear 1 or 2 with a sense of calm then you are done with the treatment.
It is important to expose yourself to the phobia situation soon after treatment to experience that you do not respond with panic fear as before but with calm. We can do it together if you don't want to do it yourself.
What is a phobia?
When you completely refrain from fear of doing something, it is called phobia. It can adversely affect and limit your life. There is good help to be had and Hypnotherapy is an effective treatment for phobias.
What causes a phobia?
It is natural to feel anxiety and fear in life. We get signals that something can be dangerous so we can avoid exposing ourselves or trying to cope with the situation. Phobia is when we become excessively scared although there is no real danger.
Why some people develop a phobia can be difficult to know. It can depend on different things. Some are more sensitive and have experiences in life that can contribute to excessive fear and anxiety, which in turn can lead to a phobia.
Many people have something they feel an excessive fear of, for example: snakes, rats, dogs, spiders and blood. Fear can also be found for: flying, heights, confined spaces, vomiting, taking syringes and blood tests.
Fear can be experienced as severe discomfort, anxiety or panic. Phobia makes you avoid things and it can mean that you do not live the life you want. Then treatment with Hypnotherapy can help.
Not all phobias are an obstacle in everyday life and you decide for yourself if treatment is needed.
Phobia is learned fear
Fear can be experienced for various things such as seeing something scary on film or doing something for the first time and being afraid of not doing it. However, phobia is an irrational one anxiety which can be treated quickly and fairly easily.
The most common method for phobias is KBT
KBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) is the most common treatment for phobias. The treatment means that the person is confronted with phobia for a while. If someone has a spider phobia then you start looking at pictures of spiders. When the person experiences a calm with the pictures, you move to see moving pictures on spiders and the last step can be taken by meeting a real spider.
The treatment with KBT is an effective method for phobias. It is successful but can evoke painful feelings because one has to confront one's fears. The method can also take a long time. Hypnotherapy is an alternative treatment that many of my clients have found after first trying KBT.
Phobia is irrational fear
In phobia, fear has developed into irrational fear. It can completely affect the life situation.
A combination of inheritance and environment is often said to be the cause of a phobia has developed, but there are other causes also according to Gabriella Svanberg play psychologist.
For example, an event in life can deepen a behavior such as Shyness which is a vulnerability we inherited. If something uncomfortable happens in a particular situation, it can mean a negative thinking that prevents us from getting into a similar situation again. This means that we do not have the opportunity to experience and gain positive experience in the situation that can break the negative attitude. In the end, anxiety only develops by thinking about the situation.
Svanberg also says that when we avoid important activities in order not to feel bad and thus limit life and affect our everyday lives, a phobia has developed. The social phobia means that we think everyone is watching me. We may start to sweat and get hard to talk. Other more specific phobias may be excessive fear of flying, spiders, snakes or lifts. The most common ways to treat phobias are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and / or medication. Hypnosis is a very good alternative method for phobias.
Unconditional and conditional response
We have different ways of learning things and within KBT we talk about two responses. Unconditional response, such as the fact that we automatically pull away if we get an electric shock or burn. Conditional response is, for example, if we remember a scent or sound that gave a soothing feeling in childhood. Then, as adults, we can automatically get the same feeling if we feel that scent or sound.
The phobia has to be exposed, which means that you gradually expose yourself to the fear of "learning" the learned behavior and getting the brain to understand that it is ok. Habituate is the term used to describe when you become accustomed to a new way of responding, without fear.
In the field of phobia, positive reinforcement is used in the short and long term. Reward makes it easy to repeat the behavior. Positive reinforcement in the short term is when creating ways out in certain situations. Maybe escape from a situation instead of staying (Social Phobia) which makes the anxiety go away and it feels better. This will probably repeat the behavior on the next occasion. In the long run, you do not get used to being with other people but isolate yourself instead.
